Witold Gombrowicz, who abandoned Europe, claimed that the revision of European form can be undertaken only from beyond European standpoint, where it becomes more casual and less perfect. The “outsiderness” characterizes those areas in a kind of suspense. Imprisoned existence is risky, monotonously spinning in one circle of political thought or held in economic check. Zygmunt Bauman, eminent Polish sociologist and philosopher, considers Europe to be a constant project that has never been completed. Each region has its “cracks”, territories, where it is dangerous to move about – it may expose one to a contact with ordinary people afflicted with the adversity of geopolitics and history, as well as physical assault, kidnapping or shooting. There is something of an abstract in it. And thus I embed into my own consciousness and at my own risk the existence of those areas, drawing abstract, irregular outlines of borders. On IKEA’s drawing paper for kids I draw in pencil these motives of isolation. The sketchiness has something to do with the unstable cartography as well as with the reluctance to embellishment and abundance in the contexts of poverty.

Witold Gombrowicz, który opuścił Europę, uważał, że rewizja formy europejskiej może być przedsięwzięta tylko z pozycji pozaeuropejskich, stamtąd gdzie ona staje się luźniejsza i mniej doskonała. Taka pozaeuropejskość cechuje obszary, które tkwią w zawieszeniu. Ryzykownym jest monotonne wirowanie w jednym kręgu myśli politycznej, albo w ekonomicznym szachu. Zygmunt Bauman myśli o Europie jako nieustannym projekcie, który nigdy nie został zrealizowany do końca. Każdy region ma „szczeliny”, terytoria po których przemieszczać się jest niebezpiecznie – może to grozić kontaktem z normalnymi ludźmi dotkniętymi nieprzychylnością geopolityki i historii, jak też pobiciem, porwaniem bądź postrzeleniem. Wrysowuję więc we własną świadomość i na własne ryzyko istnienie tych obszarów abstrakcyjnymi, nieregularnymi formami granic. Motywy wyodrębnienia rysuję ołówkiem na ikeowskim papierze do rysowania dla dzieci. Ta szkicowość ma coś wspólnego ze zmienną kartografią jak i niechęcią do dekoracji czy nadmiaru w kontekstach niedostatku.
