We mounted 11 lamps on the wall of a building (between the yard of the Jewish community quarters and św. Antoniego Street), 4 meters above the ground level, in one row, at 5-metre intervals. The number “11” symbolizes excess (it is the ten overflowed, although only by 1), martyrdom, lack of measure (consists of two “ones”, like “two”). All the lamps have been fitted up with white light bulbs of various type and wattage (from 3W to 80W) in order to weaken or enhance the perception of a regularly recurring inscription SILENCE painted over each lamp, however blurred and deconstructed in various ways. In daylight the contrasts resulting from differences in the stream of energy have been less noticeable (which is also of significance), whereas at night what was invisible in daylight has become distinct. The empty surface of the wall above constitutes the space of silence as such (space for a dialogue between different cultures). The historical context (Holocaust) is distinctly recognizable, but it does not wear out the options of interpretation.

Na ścianie budynku (między podwórzem Gminy Żydowskiej a ul. Św. Antoniego), na wysokości 4 m, umieściliśmy 11 plafonier, w jednej linii, w odstępach co 5 m. Liczba 11 symbolizuje nadmiar (przepełniona – choć tylko o 1 – liczba 10), męczeństwo, brak miary (składa się z dwóch jedynek, jak 2)*. Wszystkie lampy zostały białymi żarówkami różnego typu i o różnej mocy (od 3 W do 80 W) tak, aby osłabić lub wzmocnić możliwości percepcji rytmicznie powtarzającego się napisu CISZA, umieszczonego w każdym kloszu, lecz na różne sposoby zamazanego, zdekonstruowanego. W dzień kontrasty wynikające z różnicy strumienia energii były mniej widoczne (co też ma swoje znaczenie), wieczorem wyraźne stawało się to, czego w dziennym świetle nie widać. Pusta płaszczyzna ściany powyżej stanowi przestrzeń własną ciszy (miejsce dla dialogu między kulturami). Kontekst historyczny jest tu jasno rozpoznawalny, jednak nie wyczerpuje możliwości interpretacji.
